January 16, 2026
Dear Kenwood Families,
This past week we shared student report cards through email on Tuesday. If you have questions please be sure to contact your child’s teacher. This past week our teachers reviewed our student benchmark results and we noted some promising gains for many of our students in Reading this past semester. On Monday, we celebrated our Star Students for the month of January. Kenwood Star students are recognized for Citizenship, Academics, Most Improved and Star Conduct awards. The Star students for the month of January are included below. Just a reminder that on Monday, Jan. 19th we will not be in session as we recognize the national holiday for Martin Luther King Day.
Assistant Coach for Basketball
After some delays, we look to begin an interdistrict basketball league with other elementary schools. We are fortunate to have a head coach, Ms. Beckom, who is also a teacher aide at Kenwood. We are in need of an assistant coach to support her efforts. Our practices and games will take place after school and our season is expected to go until Spring break. If you are interested or know someone who would be interested please feel free to reach out to me (nadrotr@u4sd.org).
Kenwood PTA Vice President
Our Kenwood PTA is currently without a vice president and we are looking to fill this position. If you or someone you know has an interest in taking an active role in our PTA please reach out to our Kenwood PTA president, Justi Hudson @ president@kenwoodpta.org
Kenwood School is coordinating services with the Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services (RACES) to assist with teaching the Erin's Law for this school year. The Erin's Law requires schools to teach students age appropriate techniques to recognize child sexual abuse and to tell a trusted adult.
Kenwood School is using the Second Step: Child Protection Unit curriculum in your child's classroom in collaboration with the Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services (RACES). The Child Protection Unit program teaches children important personal safety skills and helps our school be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn. If you have any questions or concerns about the RACES curriculum, please contact Ellen Schultz, School Social Worker at Kenwood School for more information. Contact may be made by leaving a message at (217) 351-3815 or emailing at schultel@u4sd.org.
If you DO NOT want your child to participate in these Erin's Law lessons, please contact your child's teacher by Friday, Jan. 23rd. All students will participate in these lessons unless we receive contact from a parent. Thank you for helping us make our school a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Trevor Nadrozny
Principal
