NAAPID

February 13th, 2026

Dear Kenwood Families,

Happy Friday 13th! This past week has been marked by community involvement, and celebrations right here in our school.

Celebrating Family and Heritage: NAAPID Success

We kicked off the week with our highly anticipated annual celebration of National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID), and we were absolutely thrilled by the turnout. The cafeteria and hallways were buzzing with activity, and we were so proud to report a large presence of parents, guardians, and family members joining us. This special day offered a beautiful opportunity for families to connect with their students in the school environment. Our students enjoyed the chance to share both breakfast and lunch alongside their students in the cafeteria. The energy and positive atmosphere generated by this event underscored the importance of strong school-community partnerships. Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend and make NAAPID such a success.

A Royal Affair: The Kindergarten Kings and Queens

Another major highlight of the week was the exciting culmination of the Kindergarten Kings and Queens unit of study. Our Kindergarten students have been studying about Kings and Queens in their CKLA units and celebrated their learning in magnificent style. The annual Royal Ball was a joyous occasion filled with music, dancing, and fun moments. The celebration then moved to  our "royals" processional as Kindergarten students participated in a parade through the hallways. Thanks to our Kindergarten teachers and aides for their incredible hard work, and creativity to make this year’s Royal Ball and parade such a fun and memorable event for our students.

Car Dismissal & Arrival Safety Refinements

To ensure a safe and efficient car dismissal and arrival process, we are implementing refinements to our current procedures.

Key Procedures:

  1. Pull Forward: Please pull your vehicle all the way to the front of the circle drive. Staff members will be waiting there to assist students with safe loading.

  2. Use the Pick-Up Queue: We strongly encourage all parents to utilize the established dismissal pick-up procedures by joining the queue.

  3. Do Not Wave Students to cross the pick up area: For student safety, please do not wave students across the circle drive without adult supervision. This action creates an unsafe situation.

Panorama Family Survey

ISBE requires all schools to survey students (Grades 4-12), teachers, and families annually for feedback on their educational experiences. This year, we are using the Panorama platform instead of 5 Essentials. Your feedback helps us identify strengths and areas for improvement. Access the family survey via the link below:

Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday in honor of President’s Day. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trevor Nadrozny
