Dear Kenwood Families,

Hope you’ve had a great week! Here is an update on some important upcoming school events:

Illinois Science Assessment for 5th Grade

Next week, our 5th-grade students will take the Illinois Science Assessment. This State assessment, which measures students' knowledge of science concepts, will be administered on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Planning for Next Year: Class Placements

As the school year nears its end, we are starting the process of planning student class placements for the upcoming year. Classroom assignments are based on a variety of factors. Your input as a parent or guardian is valuable to ensure we make the most informed decisions to best support your student's learning needs.

While I may not be able to honor every specific teacher request, I welcome your feedback. Please submit a letter or email to me at nadroztr@u4sd.org by Friday, May 1st, 2025.

Please note: Letters received after the May 1st deadline will not be considered, as we will have moved on to the next phase of the classroom assignment process.

Erin’s Law Instruction

Kenwood School is partnering with the Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services (RACES) to provide instruction for Erin's Law this school year. This law requires schools to teach students age-appropriate techniques to recognize child sexual abuse and to tell a trusted adult.

We will be using the Second Step: Child Protection Unit curriculum in collaboration with RACES. This program teaches children important personal safety skills and helps maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone.

Opt-Out Option:

If you DO NOT want your child to participate in these Erin's Law lessons, please contact your child's teacher by Friday, April 24th. All students will participate unless we receive contact from a parent.

For any questions or concerns about the RACES curriculum, please contact Ellen Schultz, School Social Worker at Kenwood School, by leaving a message at (217) 351-3815 or emailing schultel@u4sd.org. Thank you for helping us make our school a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.

In the Community:

Interested in Cub Scouts for your elementary student? Scout activities, led by trained parents, promote physical, emotional, and mental growth. Scout Pack 119 is hosting a Fun Day on Sunday, April 26, 2-4 pm at Robeson Park (west of Robeson School). Enjoy water rockets, games, ice cream, face painting, and more!
