Dear Kenwood Families,
Happy Friday! This week was certainly a hot week that had us inside for our recess. We adjusted and our teachers provided some structured play including board games and building activities. We are hopeful that next week the high temperatures will retreat. This past Tuesday, we hosted our first in person PTA meeting in more than 6 years and we were very pleased with our turn out as we welcomed a record turn out of PTA families and their children. Our PTA president, Justi Hudson shared some exciting news about a Kenwood Fun Run that will be connected to our annual Kenwood Cross Country Race coordinated by our PE teacher, Mr. Bicknell. This past week, we also enjoyed our picture day and it was great to see everyone in their new school outfits.
Panorama Survey
This week our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the Panorama Survey. The Panorama survey measures how our students perceive their social emotional skills. These skills are defined in three categories.
Self management which describes how well students manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations.
Growth mindset which are student perceptions of whether they have the potential to change their performance in school.
Self-efficacy which looks at how much students believe they can succeed in achieving academic outcomes.
The survey also helps us see how students perceive their sense of belonging and teacher and student relationships. We look forward to our results to help us plan for and support our students.
ALICE Drill, Sept 11th
This coming week we have a lockdown drill which has previously been identified as the ALICE drill which is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate and is an evidence-based plan that aligns with the recommendations from the U.S. Department of Education and has been used in school districts across the nation. During this drill, an announcement will be made to staff and students that we are conducting the lockdown drill. Teachers will ensure students are safely in the classroom and lock doors from the inside while getting into the lockdown position. Kenwood will be participating in the drill on Friday, Sept. 11th at 9:00am. Please see the letter regarding Law Enforcement Drill.
